glad we all could help.

if it was my truck i still would change fluid, filter, drain convertor. also add instant shudder fixx to new fluid.

just my opinion.

good luck!

I think I have the same problem, I hope it's not too late as this problem has been going on for a few months. still curious as to find out what kind of transmission fluid must be used. 92 6cyl A/T with O/D

quicklook2 02-08-2006 10:08 PM

a good quality mercon.

87f150xlt 02-08-2006 10:10 PM

mercon V? or III?

gatesj 02-09-2006 10:22 AM

87f150xlt, if you have the 6 cylinder and an automatic overdrive transmission then you have the E4OD that year. They did have some nasty issues with torque converter clutches, in fact that is what killed a lot of those transmissions.

Do not use Mercon V in an E4OD of that time period. Mercon only. Sometimes it comes as "Dextron III Mercon", it is a dual rating for boxes that take Dextron III AND boxes that take Mercon. There is no Mercon III.

MERCON.

NOT MERCON V.

look in your owners manual.

Thanks, maybe it's too late. but I'll give it a shot sometime.

make sure you drain convertor, new filter and fluid and do not tighten the bolts too tight.

i recommend lucas trans treatment also. warm it in hot water so it flows easier and put it in after a gallon or so of mercon is in trans.

also, a product named 'shudder fixx' is a good thing. do a google search on it for where to buy it in your area.

quicklook2 02-16-2006 12:57 PM

did they drain torque convertor?

what do you mean by flushed? drained?

coppertales 02-16-2006 03:41 PM

I have a '96, 302 auto....

that had almost the same thing around 65-70k miles. A fluid change corrected the problem. It also had a stutter when upshifting from 3-4. I had replaced the air cleaner with a K&D and when I changed it back to stock paper, the stutter went away.......must have affected the vaccuum somehow......chris3

he flushed the tranny and and pulled the pan and put in a new filter and refilled it.is there a different way to drain the converter? thanks

quicklook2 02-17-2006 10:07 AM

to drain convertor you need to pull a rubber plug below convertor remove the inspection plate to rotate convetor. align drain hole/bolt to hole and drain.

do this and remove pan and put in another filter and use shudder fix and lucas trans. treatment and new fluid and you may get rid of shudder.

Why would you use both treatments. does Lucas have a shudder fix additive in it. and what do you think of lucas products
