How to remove center console?
 

Does anyone know how to get the center console out or at least the black insert part of the console?

The wife's '03 tribute just ate her license. Where the center console meets up with the bottom of the dash is a small space- enough to slide your license into. She went to put her driver's license into the small compartment at the bottom of the dash and missed. Her license slipped down between the center console & dash. When she went to retrieve it it slid under the center console. We have been unable to fish it out. So now it looks like the only way to get it back is to take the console out or apart. Of course she could pay $25 to have the DL replaced.

The solution was easier than I thought it would be. My wife actually retrieved her license by taking the "under the dash" console off. Four plastic screws and the thing just popped off. She didn't even have to disconnect the lighter as there was enough room for her hand to slip in.

Now that she's proven she can work on cars I have few projects lined up for her. :)

I had the same problem! I needed to install a modification to a radio (someone else installed) and kind of struggled with the same thing - until I pulled the screwdriver out. So after I figured out, in went a few more radio modifications!
