Mahwah Assembly plant

Is anybody familiar with the old Mahwah assy plant, specifically where exactly it is located, like what road? I know it closed in 1980, but I'm doing some research and wanted to drive by it if it is still standing, take a pic etc.

If i'm not mistaken take rt.17 north and just before you cross the nj/ny border look to your right you'll see the Sharp headquarters that is where the assy plant was.

yep north route 17 just before the ny border. sharpe and a hotel are where it was . worked the night shift in it 1969 to 1973.

Hey Charlie since you worked there do you get a certain percentage off when buying a new ford or did you have to retire from Ford do get it?

Phinxter 03-25-2005 11:11 PM

So you say where it was does that mean it was demolished or did Sharp just move in to the existing structure???????????

frederic 03-26-2005 08:31 AM

The building was torn down in the 80's and Sharp built several new buildings, a parking lot for their employees and guests, and there is nothing left whatsoever to indicate it was a Ford assembly plant at one time. It's completely gone.

However, you can go to the site by taking route 17 North to the very end of the state, and just as you past the dildo-shaped Sheriden Hotel, you'll see a small green sign on the right that says "Sharp North America Headquarters". Get off there and follow the entry road to the front of the buildings, and you're there.

Thanks guys, I wish I had a pic of the old place, I'll still cruise by there though.

tomrooster-1 04-11-2005 08:35 PM

I own a 58 Edsel that was built there. Not many Edsels are left that were made from this plant because they rusted away . Most of the Edsels you see were from the south or west

Phinxter 07-24-2005 03:36 PM

I finally made it past there today, thanks for all the help fellas.

captchas 07-24-2005 03:55 PM
