In June of 2004 an attorney used FTE site to try to gain information in support of prosecuting a suit on behalf of his client. At that time we directed him to our terms and deactivated his account. Months later we received two subpoenas from the Superior Court of California (Los Angeles County) to provide information about a few of our users.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts, Inc. takes the privacy of our users seriously and does not share your information with thirds parties. Our full privacy policy and terms of use can be found on the following page:

Part of that policy states:

We do however reserve the right to reveal your identity to involved parties or to a legal authority in the event of legal action arising from any message you post or complaints arising from violation of these terms or the guidelines of any section of this site.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts, Inc. has consulted with its attorney and has a legal obligation to provide the information we have. We had the choice to comply with the subpoenas or possibly face being held in contempt of court. This information includes text, user names and IP addresses from specific posts. Additionally, email addresses, locations and names associated with user profiles in those posts. A small number of users are involved in this list but everyone needed to be notified so you will not be caught by surprise if you get contacted regarding the class-action lawsuit of "Gullihur v. Ford Motor Company."

In additional to considerable legal expenses I’ve also had an enormous amount of stress over the matter. I take FTE's obligations to its users and their privacy very seriously.
