Just how big IS a 534?
 

I know I'm not the first to ask, but I couldn't find it in the archives. I'm building a '75 F-350 and wondering if a 534 will fit in there and what trannies will bolt to it. It's a frame up re-build of the truck, so now's the time to consider such things. IF anyone has any dimensional drawings or spec. for these engines I'd really appreciate seeing them. Thanks, Ogre.

The SD series 534 is a big, humongus, heavy, gas-guzzling engine, from what I've heard. Upwards of 1,000lbs. You might be able to make one fit, but it'd be a PITA IMO. However, you would get superb low end torque for towing, or whatever other work you plan to do with the truck. Plus, the "wow" factor of having possibly the biggest gas engine ever put in an F350.

I'm sure someone will come along with more specs.

Holy crap! 1032 lbs? I'm still thinking it'd work, those "D" trucks use that cow of a Cummins B motor, those are almost that heavy. Ogre.

A 534??? Thats what we run in my dads crane truck that weighs 30,000 lbs. If thats what you want, then good luck and have fun, but that thing is going to DRINK gas. We figure we get about 4 miles a gallon, although that truck does have a lot of stand-still loading duties that consume gas which are included in that number.

Well, the 390 in my 2wd F-350 gets between 7 and 9 mpg, how much worse can it get? Ogre.

I've got the 534 in my boat, ripped out the gov.,boxed the carb and turbo-charged it.
It's hooked up to 2-1 ratio capitol gear, I'm hoping for a increased heart when I punch it.
Still trying to figure out how to post a copy of the installation spec sheet,it will show up, I think

This swap sounds good on paper, but there is a better choice, the stroked 460. The 534 has NO speed parts available. NONE. The top RPM range is about 3300. The parts that you still can get for it are extremely expensive. (I got a set of 534 cast pistons somewhere in the garage. I'm sure if I had to buy them over again, it would be ~$450.)
Now the 460 has all kinds of speed parts, including stroker kits that can get you over your 534 cubic inches. There is simply no comparison.
Plus, I won't even harp on the weight differences.

Well, considering you can buy a rebuilt 534 for about $2,600.00 plus a core the price of a "built" 460 seems a bit high. I realize it's not a pratical idea, maybe not even too smart. But come on, anyone can build a big block... Ogre.

the 534 had a bell housing pattern some what like a fe but not identical they are still way cool engines just look for a earlier built engine they had the most power

I would go with a 557, stroked 460, call Keith Craft Racing Engines! This will put the WOW on them!

It'll put the WOW on my wallet too. Anybody got a dimensional drawing of a 534? Ogre.
