Ranger Electric

i was looking up part numbers on motorcraft.com for my dads 2003 ranger and when i got to the part where i select the engine, it had two selections for a Ford Ranger Electric, VIN:1 and VIN:7

is there an electric (hybrid?) engine for the ranger in some other part of the world?

I saw a electric 98 or 99 year model ranger on ebay about 6 months ago. Until then I had no idea that ford made a electric ranger

Ford has a green program, and I am sure that an electric power plant is on the menu. I think that the fleet sales would get the most action with the electric power plant.

My boss looked into these for work trucks, but i guess they really were pretty sucky, almost no payload or towing capacity, 80 mile range (depending on type of driving) and low top speed and i think they were kinda pricey too, they didnt make them very long cause when he resurched them they werent making them anymore, or at least he could never find any to even look at

Yeah I saw the electric ones when I lived in Dallas Texas back in 2000. They were regular cab models with a cover on the back and not many options at all. If memory serves me right they were about $36k at that time. Also I saw in the news not long ago that there was a program down in California where people have been driving them for 3 years on this study and now it has come time for those people to turn them back in, well they didnt want to. One guy went to court to keep his Electric Ranger

There was some news about that around here because Ford was trying to get the electric rangers back and some of the people who had them wanted to keep them, little lawsuite which was settled allowed some of the people who where testing them to buy them.

Two people in Ca did a sit-in at the local Ford dealership in Sacramento until Ford let them buy their electric Rangers. Ford decided to let them buy their Rangers for the sum of one dollar in a limited customer satisfaction program.

Pretty good deal....

A dollar is not a bad deal at all...especially since these people really wanted to keep them....I never got to drive one myself so I have no idea about how they drove. I will keep my 4.0l for now thank you very much! 8D

i forgot to mention i think they were front wheel drive?
anyways screw their electric and their hybrid dogs, when they give me a well thought out lil turbo diesel option i might stop driving my 750 cfm 4bbl 429 powerd f-250. then they can take me off the epa's 10 most wanted list :)
