In need of an FE
 

Hi all,
Been cruising the FTE site for a while and just now found the IL Chapter. I'm in El Paso, IL (15 miles north of Bloomington).

I know my member name (BigChevy80) doesn't fit here, but it's the member name I use for everything. I love the '73-'79 style of Fords. Don't really care for anything newer from Ford (I don't like newer vehicles period). I've had many Fords and Chevys, even a few Dodges and other off brands in the past. I grew up with all GM products, but if it runs and makes noise I will tinker with it. :D

I just bought a 1975 F-150 2WD last weekend for $300. It's an old beater that gets me to work and back. The 360 in it runs decent, but has really low oil pressure and guzzles oil. I have to dump a quart in it about every 150-200 miles. I'd like to find a decent running 360 or 390 engine for cheap. Doesn't have to be rebuilt or anything, I don't want to spend any kind of big money on this truck. I just want to have a spare engine around to throw in when this old 360 finally bites the big one. I'll definately replace the oil pump and main seals before putting it in.

Anyone have an FE laying around that they could stand to part with?

I don't have anything that will just drop in, might have one that would hopefully be rebuildable, but a suggestion, check the rod bearings and mains while you have it apart, may be where your pressure loss is. Also, do a compression check,I had one a while back that the wrist pins broke their keepers and rubbed the cylinder walls, making 2 - 1/8" grooves in 2 cylinder walls. It messed up may oil pressure due to cylinder pressures getting past the pistons, and blew oil out every place it could, including the new main seals I had put in. You can get a new Melling high volume oil pump from Jegs or Summit, don't quite remember, for about $30.

welcome! I am about 15 miles from you, between Minonk and Flanagan. I know some guys in Benson and Flanagan that used to have spare FE's from their F100 projects. I also know of a junkyard nearby that has 2 FE engines laying on the ground. Can't accertain their condition. Email me and I will contact those other members.

I've got a 360 in great shape and also a granny low 4spd. that came out of my truck. (put in a mod. 300) Email me and we can come up with a cheap price. I live in Rockford.
