VIP Test Connector
 

I'm working on my 1996 4.0 L Explorer for the first time (other than routine maintenance). I'm attempting to diagnose a no start condition due to what I believe to be a fuel system problem. There appears to be a way to put the ignition in the start position, and run the fuel pump (without the engine running), but to do so, you have to short a lead on the VIP Test Connector. I have looked all over for that connector and still can't find it. Does anyone know where the VIP Test Connector is? Thanks in advance.

not sure this will help but its on the drivers side, under the hood, on my 92'. It is trapaziod shaped near the master cylinder. pinout is what i'm looking for.... i have a tank to drain.

Thanks bc, chiltons is showing that to run the fuel pump you need to ground the fuel pump test lead that is the port on the short side of the trapezoidal connector (it doesnt have any connectors above or below it). I'll try to confirm this for you tonight when I get home and look at the book. After doing more research on this connector type, it looks like the eec test connector is only going to be on EEC-IV equiped engines, so that would explain why I never could find it on my engine which is EEC-V equiped. :)

On that same note, does anyone know how to perform the equivalent test on the eec V engines?
