propane?

my unit (79 f150 2wd 460 auto) runs on propane. i want more horse power but the propane here is 58% cheaper than 87 octane gas. any ideas?

Change it back and start running gas. If you want more power you have to give up something.

rebuild the engine with higher compression- 11:1 or around there
rebuild the engine for twin turbos (forged internals) }>

I have 2- 1979 Ford trucks on propane. If your truck has been on propane all its life like mine, the heads and carb will be damaged and have to be replaced along with any other rubber fuel line parts. I need a rebuild on the bearings on my 302 and intend to put mine on unleaded during this process. I live in OK and propane is not cheap.

This is what I would do if propane was that much cheaper than gas. I believe propane is around 110 octane so you can run extremely high compression on it. Some of the guys with propane powered competitoin buggies are running 13:1.

Actually propane is 118 octane. You could go higher than 13:1, Cummins makes 2 versions of it's B series diesel converted to run on either LPG or CNG and if I'm not mistaken they are around 18:1. You also need to advance the timing running propane and you could even have the Distrib advance recurved.
