Broken Overdrive Selector Knob
 

Well, driving home tonight, I went to shift from park to drive, pulled down on shift lever (E4OD), and broke the plastic housing loose from the gearshift assembly. It broke as a result from the cold temperature...the plastic actually snapped. My question is, what parts are replaceable and how is it disassembled? Thanks. '95 Ford F-350 SRW 4x4 351W E4OD.

Did you just break the cap off from around the button, or did the lever actually break and is hanging from the wires? The cap is replacable, or if it broke farther down it will need the lever replaced. Either way is pretty simple. For the lever, you will need to drop the column down enough to reach above it. The lever is only attached with a pin but, you have to replace the wiring too which is part of the lever. I can give further details if needed.

I broke the part that actually says overdrive on it off. I have to replace the metal gear shift? How difficult is it to drop the column? I think I can get into it from the side as the rubber boot is ripped. Please help with more details. Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is EXACTLY like the 350 but, it should be very close. Under the column, you will have a colored panel ( it runs between the door and the center piece), it will have 2 screws on the bottom of it, then you can pull the top of it to remove. Directly under that will be a metal panel, 1 screw on bottom and 2 on the top. Under the column should be a metal brace held on with 4 nuts, and 4 more after the brace to drop the column. You will also need to remove 3 screws and the ignition switch and remove the shroud. Once you get the column down, you can follow the wire down the top/ left side (it should run in a sort of track, then to the bottom side it will be clipped(?) to the column and it unplugs right there. You should be able to slide the connector out of the clip. The lever is held in with a pin, just knock the pin out from bottom to top. CAUTION: You may or may not want to unhook the shift indicator depending on how far you drop the column.
