hey everybody
i'm considering buying a new truck and need to know
ballpark what kkind of fuel economy on the highway can i expect from a 1976 ford f250 2wd with a 2bbl 360 and an auto tranny
this would be a daily driver and is why this is important.

I would say 10-12 miles per gallon maybe 15 if you really really babied it but I doubt you would ever see that .

i also have a 76 f250 highboy with a 390 and an auto its fulltime 4wd and it gets ll mpg if i baby it. I would think a 360 2wd truck would be lighter, have a higher gear ratio, and use alot less power, not to mention the lower displacement all adding up to getting alot better mpg

my F-250 with a 460 gets 11 with 3.73 gears

a 360 will get a bit less, but headers and duals, 71 timing chain set, and other goodies can help a little. make sure the tires are fully aired up.

yup my F250 sports a 460 with 4 bbl stock holly, c-6, 3.73 1 ton rearend, and i can pull 11 - 14 if i drive like im not going anywhere

does anyone think 31/10.50 tires would help economy or would the width counter act the taller diameter

I just got a 1976 F-150 supercab with a 360, I have got about 10mpg average.

The link in post 8 to the table doesn't work. The other information is very good.

My experience with a similar truck was 8 mpg. 20% less than the lowest estimate posted above. When is a difference of 2 mpg a lot of economy? When your fuel economy is really low!! :)

proprerly tuned and driven mildly you can conceivably get 10-14 mpg, but if the timing is slightly out or the carb isnt working correctly they can seriously damper those numbers.... my 76 F-150 with a 460 780cfm holley 4bbl can get 14 mpg when running at optimum levels, but it will also only get 5 mpg if i dont keep my foot outta the pedal, its my daily driver and with the way i drive i average about 8-10 mpg, but i dont take my time going anywhere, i love passin chevy's :-X22

I agree, just tuning my new carb and setting the timing on my 460 in my driveway (revving and idling for 20 minutes) I used a quarter tank. I can get 12-14 mpg with slow starts and by rolling to stops. If I'm in aggressive driving mode, I'm looking at 4-6 mpg. I drive it less than 100 miles a month, so I don't really care about mpgs -- I put $40 in every 5-6 weeks.

:-X22 i have 76 f250 super-cab 2wd 360 4spd and i get 8-10 most of the time empty.hauling a load or towing i get 5-6 mpg. i have the granny low 4spd so that makes a big differance in mpg :-X22 :-fire :-X25

I have a '76 F-250 4x4 390, PS, PB, A/C & 4 spd. with no lift & 35" tires. Highway mpg averages around 11 mpg. It never got better than 12 mpg as long as I have owned it. It is what it is my friends!

The gas mileage of my F-250 is a subject that I avoid .... If the subject of mileage come up I always start out with the "it's paid for, runs great, and I don't use it on long trips"........LOL!
