lift laws

Does anyone know if there is a law in Maine as to how big of a tire you can go?, and does it matter how old your truck is?, and what if you don't really know the original tire size?....

I've decided I don't care about the Massachusetts laws. Apparently any modifications are not acceptable here, but lord knows I see enough lifted trucks around. My truck is in the shop now, getting a bds lift and 37" tires. CANT WAIT!!!

My old 1987 Chebby 2500 had 10" lift and 40's and was legal, the formula was pretty simple :

wheel base x wheel track (outside of left wheel to outside of right wheel) / 2200 and that is how high over stock (I believe) you can go.

Cool. Your absolutely correct.
Here is the pdf link for Massachusetts:

(156.2 x 79.9)/2200=5.6729
I need to be "within one inch". So... the 6" lift should be good to go.

It says I can increase the tire size by the same amount as the "mechanical lift"... so going from 31's to 37's are good.

Technically I am still legal!

Maines new motor vehicle law states no tire bigger than stock may be fitted on a vehicle...........this sucks

Hubs2000 12-11-2004 04:06 PM

Wow... Thats lousy. What about all the sports cars with wider tires? That law doesn't make any sense. I can at least see an argument against loud exhausts, or large lifts... I don't agree with the argument, but I can see where you could complain. Just having a law against bigger tires is dumn.

Lift, exhaust, and tire laws really tick me off.....we have way better things to be "fixing" in our government sysems than stupid petty stuff like this. You could probably attribute like 1 death a year in new england to a lifted truck. It would probably have been the other person's fault, and whatever...this world is rediculous these days. I have to end this or I'll be violating guidelines myself.
