ford ranger flywheel keeps breaking??
i have a 1988 ford ranger 4x4 2.9 .the problem is the flywheel keeps breaking every other week.does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Is it manual or automatic? Does it have the engine-tranny alignment dowels in place? Is the harmonic balancer still in good condition? These are things that can lead to broken flywheels.
|
its a automatic trans. the trans dowel pins are lined up ,the trans wouldnt fit if they wouldnt be,or would the starter.
|
Transmission alignment with the engine is most critical, however if it is the original
transmission/engine combination I can't see why that would change, unless the bolts came loose and the pilot holes got opened up. Any work done to the transmission? |
It may be possible you dont have the converter in all the way.
|
Also make sure bolts in crankshaft are torqued evenly, make sure torque convertor bolts torqued properly too, as loose bolts break things too.
If you have the dowels in place, I would suggest checking that you have the proper flywheel and harmonic balancer. Does the engine vibrate or shake at all? |
A question for imxscarredxtoo, *where* is the flex plate breaking?
If it's around the crank flange, you may need a spreader plate... SteveL |
