I have a 2001 15" rims with 31" tires they don't rub at all. DO NOT get Mud Terrain Tires though, they cause horrible road noise and have much worse handling. I have Michellin LTX M/S and love them, if you offroad alot I would get A/Ts such as Goodyear A/Ts. Best of Luck.

I have a weird number on the side of my tires. Can anyone clarify the diameter? It reads "P225 70R15" I know the 15 is the size of the rim and R is radial but what's the 70? My stepdad told me it's centimeters, ah screw it I'll just go measure the tire. So I'll be able to fit 31's under my truck?

LARGEST TIRES THAT CAN FIT UNDER 2001 FORD RANGER

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Feb-02 AT 10:24 PM (EST)]I'm not sure if they will fit on XL's I do know 31"s will fit on 2x4 2001 Edges
For This example well say you have 235/75/R15

Standard tire sizing works like this
First number is the width of the tire in millimeters (235 mm).
Second number is the aspect ratio (its the height of the sidewall) you multiply the second number by the first to get the height of the sidewall so 235mm * 0.75= 176.25mm .
r15 is your rim diameter in inches.
F
So to find your total tire diameter you multipy your sidewall height times two since there's a sidewall on each side of the rim.
176.25mm * 2= 352.5mm
Now to convert mm to inches you DIVIDE by 25.4, conversely to convert inches to mm you MULTIPLY by 25.4.
So we take the height of both side walls and convert it to inches
352.5mm / 25.4 = 13.88 inches
add the height of BOTH sidewalls and the diameter of the rim to obtain the tire diameter 13.88 inches + 15 inches = 29 inches
The width of the tire in inches is 235 / 25.4 = 9.25 inches

So your tire sixe in inches is 29x9.5 R15

I am currently running 265/75/15 tires on my 2000 Ford Ranger and love them! The tire diameter for theses works out to 30.7 inches. This actually did a few things for me. Number one it corrected my speedometer gauge which was previously reading about 5 mph to fast; and Secondly, it lowered my cruising tachometer reading from 2700 rpm at 60 mph to about 2300 rpm at 60! A third benefit of these tires are that they help smooth out the ride. I bought these tires from the local Ford dealership--all terrain tread for street use--BF Goodrich Commando XTs. I have had them on for about a week--no rubbing this far. :)

With some minor rubbing. The Edge sits higher then your truck

I forgot to mention in my post above that I do have the "tow package" installed on my 2000 2X4 Ford Ranger so it does give some extra clearance under the wheel wells. I am running the following tire size: 265/75/15. Still no rubbing so far. :) Also see above message that I posted. The tire diameter measures 30.7 inches.

4x4's and edge models will easily fit a 31/10.50.

Bigtony4 07-04-2007 11:10 AM

I have 32 inch tires on an 04 4x4 with 16 inch wheels. I do not have any rubbing.

flyingv2000 07-04-2007 12:10 PM

so do you think its possible to fit 30S on my 2000 ford ranger

Bigtony4 07-04-2007 10:09 PM

You should fit 30 inch tires with no problem.
