I just stopped up at the bodyshop I've been directed to by several folks, and got an estimate done on my new truck that an old guy decided to pull in front of without a signal a while back. Anyways...I copied the statement I posted in the "Paint and Bodywork" section, though I figured I'd better also post it here.



"Ok, I just went and got an estimate on repairs for my truck. An old guy pulled out in front of me a while back, and evidently he dealt me 750 bucks in damage. Anyways, here's the breakdown -

Front Impact Strip - 41.63 OEM
Grille Assembly (Header Panel) - 123.00
Headlamp Door (Chrome Bezel) - 34.00
Side Marker Lamp - 16.00
Parklamp Assembly - 45.00

And then there are 2.3 hours for refinishing the "Deflector, Frt End Pnl" whatever that means, and then 2.0 hours repairing the front fender and anohter 1.3 hours painting the front fender. 2.7 hours for replacement of the header panel, then the other items are just small like .1 hours and .2 hous. Total ends up at 745.23.

Anyways...are the prices above on the parts alright? I already called a junk yard and they said they could do me the headlamp door, sidemarker, and parklamp for 75.00 total, and the header panel for 50 bucks.

As for the rest of it, are there any other ways that I can cut some of this cost? It's all out of pocket, though if I'd known it would be this high I might have bothered with insurance (I figured as long as it was 700-750 bucks or less it would be better to take care of it myself...as I have a 500 dollar deductible and then my insurance lady would love to jack up my insurance rate even more).

Should I maybe strip the header panel off myself and take care of it, or what? I'm just appalled that it is so much, it looks nothing like 750 dollars worth of damage. Thanks"



That's the quote. As I said, I've already found the header panel for cheaper. Should I/could I try to do the header panel myself? As mentioned, this is out of pocket so I'd like to cut some of this cost down - it eally doesn't look like there's THAT much damage there.

Anybody have any other recommendations on things? I'm open...

I guess this would all depend on the year of truck we are dealing with. I'm working for Wheelers Autobody Supply right now rewriting their entire Online Inventory Order Entry system.

If the old man pulled out in front of you, wouldn't it be his fault and his insurance be paying for it???

I don't think the prices sound too bad. But if you can get salvage parts would they let you bring in your parts and do the install/painting? Some idiot hit my old Grand Am at the last place I worked with the company truck and trailer. I didn't think the dameage was too bad. Some straightening on the top corner of the quarter, trunk lid, tail light, Grand am emblem and the plastic across the back and the estimates were 12 to 13 hundred.

I agree with Farmboy wouldnt' the other guys insurance have had to pay for it?

It's my 1994 F150. The details of it are in the signature.

I didn't report it because the only visible damage was the blinker and sidemarker lights. Some light scuffing on my stone deflector and fender, and a few chewmarks on my impact strip.

Learned my lesson now..on how that stuff adds up. That..and the 500 deductible isn't quite so bad afterall.

I apologize, I always turn off signatures on forums... That's why I didn't see it. I'll check yours out after I check the pricing you were quoted.
