2004 Ford F-150 disappointment
 

Has anyone been able to resolve the f-150 shimmy/vibration problem? see lots of complaints but not resolution. As a first time ford buyer I cannot express how disappointed I am in my first purchase. f-150 supercrew xlt 5.4 lots of power but shimmies so bad at 55, 65, 70+ what is the point...in shop for second time and will not leave until fixed...they can keep it indefinately as far as I am concerned....

I personally am not firmiliar with the F150 as I have owned SD Diesels. However from our side of the fence. Sometimes the drive shafts aren't balanced properly which produces the same scenario. I am assuming the shimmy you are referring to is from the steering wheel?

04 Lariat with 2600 miles and I felt the "nibble" today at 60-65.... Colder(50 degrees) today than I've ever driven the truck and once it warmed up the nibble just about disapeared. It's for sure in the front end and strickly in the steering.... The tires when it was 80 degrees were at 32lbs. I'm going to bring them up to 35lbs tomorrow and see what happens... If no change then I'm going to hit the dealer...

The '04 model F-150 is the 1st year for the rack & pinion steering system. I don't know why trucks need this but its probably responsible for a lot of the feedback the driver feels at the steering wheel. Ford has already changed some things on this steering system and I've read the pre-load adjustment is critical also. Chevy & Dodge trucks also have rack & pinion systems, but I don't know if they are having similiar problems. It's just another way of increasing the probability of vibes. Comments?

There is supose to be a new updated steering rack availible for this concern. Talk to you dealer about it. The common problem is tires. Some dealers have Road force tire ballancers and that is the way to go.
