JC whitney supposedly offers a universal LP kit that hooks a hose straight to your airbox/filter lid. I looked at it on their website and all it includes is a regulator and some hose. YOu have get your own tank and a lot of other parts and they charge you $800 for it! It sucks! I am thinking about getting a regulator and some gas grill parts to rig it to my 7.3 IDI. It should be the same as your 6.9. Horsepower increase is 70+ on a PSD. Not sure for our turboless dinosaurs.

get it all dot approved It may cost but then you don't have to worry about being sued if you get in a reck. check your local propane dealer tell him what you're looking for. If you don't have a turbo you need a "red roster" kit it made to work on farm tractors

can you tell me more about the red roster kit, also where can i pick one up?

I'd get a forklift style tank and brackets sounds cheaper and easier to change tanks about $150 and the lay down bracket is $82. I'd do the rest of the system by buying the parts somewhere else but I guess a local lp dealer could set you up pretty well mine told me around 600 total but the system is designed for farm tractor they called a mechanical red roster(acme is the supplier up in Minnesota).look at products at www-Acmecarb-com by the way nobody has a good safe kit as this company. but have soap water on hand to test the lines make sure this doesn't blow up on you after you have it installed propane can be very good if controled or it can be very bad.

The Red Roster kit specifies an electronically injected engine. That leaves the IDI out, but is ideal for the power stroke engine.

Numerous vendors sell the Powershot 2000 for around 600-650.00 Huffenberger Restorations in Hanford CA sells it for 599.00 I bought my Hypermax from them. This is best system I've read reviews about for the 6.9/7.3. Its on my Christmas list!!!

How does a propane kit work? Is it like a nitrous kit for a gas engine that only offers short power bursts? Or, is the propane a continous power increase (like a turbo) until the tank is empty?

Its kind of like Nitrous Oxide for diesels you can have it on for so long but if your exhaust gas temps get to high you have to let off. what it does is add another fuel to the fire that helps every thing burn. If all your fuel is burnt you get more power. Also if you really in to all of this bottle fed stuff you can add Nitrous Oxide too

hey yall when I had my 93 idi TD I was thinking about the propane deal but one of the manufactures of it ( I don't remember who) told me it was best to run propane on an intercooled engine, I remember him saying it coud burn a hole in the piston, the intercooler cools the charged air. has anyone ever heard this?

A turbo can melt the pistons as well. That is why you install a pyrometer.

when hooking up the propane cant you just run it to the air filter bowl and not mess with injectors?

Yes you can if you have the right controls to control the flow of propane.
