Where is my Temp sending unit?
I have a 99 F150 4.2 liter. temp gage show redline but engine is not over heated. let it run in my garage for 20 min in the red and then I shut her off and turned her back on; gauge went to normal position. fuses look good. I cant seem to locate my temp sending unit though. there is a plug to the right of my thermostat housing but can locate where the unit is!!!!

I looked in a service manual and only saw a temperature sending unit on the 4.6L...it is located on the front of intake on the right hand side.
http://mypeoplepc.com/members/mnmlam...es/a22810a.gif The 4.2L has a head temperature sensor on the rear of the left hand head. I am sure someone else will be of more help. |
would that be rear driverside head? thanks for the quick response!!

Yes. When considering vehicle handedness, always think of it as you are sitting in the vehicle. i.e. left hand = driver's side. Not sure if it is the sensor that ties to your light/gauge.

thanks!! will keep looking!

It's on the intake manifold, close to the thermostat.
