What are the best drag tires
 

Hey guys just wondering where to go for to get some good drag tires. What size rims I should get, if the tires need to be brand new. Dont plan on running every weekend just something for the occasional run. Thanks men

This is on an 04 L

I run the et streets, 26x11.5x16 on stock steel spare tire wheels. Hook like crazy! I've seen high 1.6 60's. Dont try to drive on them to far on the street, they have a tendency to go wherever they want sometimes and I dont think they would last very long. Also, make sure you've got some type of traction bar or the driveshaft might look like a pretzel after a few passes...

I've tried 26" tall ET Streets and lost mph with them every single time. My 60' times were just as good with the F1's (Low 1.8's). I then did a dyno comparison between F1's and 26" tall ET Streets. The results I got back in March of '03 were:

F1's: 447.2 RWHP, 576.5 RWTQ

ET Streets (26" X 11.5): 429.5 RWHP, 544.2 RWTQ

I switched to Hoosier Quick Time Pro's and the mph went right back where it should be, and the 60' times dropped into the 1.7's first time out.

What size tire and rim should I run on my truck. I think I am going to go with the hoosiers. And how much should expect to pay for rims and tires. Also do rims matter that much? Dont give a $#$@ what they look like as long as they stick!! Thanks,

I am using 16" Weld Pro Star XP wheels with Hoosier Quick Time Pro tires, 16"X 11.5" wide. You can find a cheaper wheel but make sure the backspacing is right and you don't want to go less than 8" wide. The Weld wheels are REAL light. A stock setup weighs something like 69 pounds and a Weld setup weighs something like 28. Look at my signature to see what they look like on a Lightning. For pricing, just go to Jegs or Summit. I forget what I paid for everything, it was a long time ago.

I know a guy selling some used ET Streets on 16" wheels that came off a Lightning if you are local to NJ. He'll prolly let both of them go for $100 or so (Not really sure). The tires are pretty worn but are still usable.

If you go to a 15 inch wheel, you'll have to grind down some of your caliper for clearance. 16 inch wheels should fit with no problems. Check with the wheel maker to be 100% sure. Bogart makes some nice, light wheels for the L but I think they only come in 15 inch.
