How to keep an Iowan Wife happy...?
In the past few months, I have wittnessed parts, parts, parts. Some on Ebay, some here, some private sellers....and most prople are taking photos of these things on the kitchen table. One nice guy offered me a nice grille for my 69...the photo showed it was leaning against his bathroom door. One guy had a whipple blower on the breakfast bar. *****!!! My wife would kick my A$$. Maybe they are all single. Anyway, with the up and coming tear down of my 69 I was curious how you guys get away with this kind of behavior without getting killed. Also, what kind of grief do you all get for "staying in the garage all night"... ???

Foot rubs, dinner out planned by you, a night at the casino and it helps if you have thick skin when she talks about the time spent with your truck!

I really am blessed. I cannot think of a time when my beloved has told me off for anything..

I also beling to a Honda Aquatrax group ( www.pwc.com -Honda forum ). One of the guys is a mechanical engineer. He bought this ski new, tore it apart and started making mods right away. He will often take photos of the engine torn to pieces in his very nice kitchen...parts strewn all over the kitchen countertop, table, or on the floor somewhere. I asked him the same questions....he IS single. He needs a wife and kids...too much time on his hands apparently!

my wife got a little upset when i told her i was going to build a 30 by 34 garage in the backyard and there wasnt going to be room for her escort lol

This is the only type of grief my wife gives me, she turns my parts into a center piece since I left it on the dining room table :-X24

Here's another way... took one of my trucks to the junk. Hated to do it, but I took off all the parts I wanted. :-tap

My wife has never had to yell at me or anything like that she has "the look" :-hair When I get that I just turn around and walk back out the door :-wink :-X10
I may not be the brightest bulb in the box but I have enuff light to read by :-X21 |
I'm blessed with a wife that almost encourages it, but that's because she gets her vehicles worked on too...

I must be lucky so far as long as I mostly clean up after myself the wife has no problem with parts around the house.
Everything from putting together complete motorcycles to rebuilding carbs. Brake fluid, or other solvents/chemicals on the kitchen table gets the look but I get away most of it. Maybe she's just happy I'm in the house not the garage. The foot/back rubs and things help too. LOVE the centerpiece. |
Rereading the initail post, I used to list parts that I took pics of on the pool table... had to usually get out the vacuum afterwards... Just a head shake and walk away.... Actually my wife is pretty cool about it all, she kinda grew up with it, runs in her family too, and she is mechanically curious to a point. She doesn't quite get in a go on it with me, but she likes the customs and projects that I do, and car shows and races and tractor pulls and playing in the mud... One of her personal vehicles was a s10 that she took mudding, and the father's Jeep that had no top. He came home once and told her that she had to wash it all out since she had gotten it full of mud...

My wife don't care. Hell, she removed the tranny out of 1badcat while I was at work (had to replace the flywheel). I'm so proud, cuz when we met, she didn't know squat about cars. She's learned alot.

That's great. My wife is a self starter too. I had a bad thermostat in the 69 and asked the wife to pick one up. She asked me a little about it...the truck is an I6.
I thought nothing of her questions until I got home. It was a snowy winter night and I don't have anywhere except the (COLD) open yard to work. I was proud and REALLY pleased when I found out she already did the job. |
