Ranger Flareside vs. Styleside?
 

I'm looking at Rangers,(Extended SuperCab) for everyday T/F work and DYI projects. Any advantages to the Flareside vs. the Styleside? I note the S. side has a 54" width at the tailgate but the F. side only measures 46". The distance between the wheel wells is about equal. Appreciate any suggestions or experiences with either type?

I like my flareside for the looks of it but I liked my old styleside better hauling things. YOu dont think that it makes much of a differance but it did to me.

The extended cabs are short boxes. Flairsides are narrow boxes. That's one strike too many!
If the styleside looks too plain for your tastes, consider stripes or splashes or a little air brush work.

How new are you thinking?

My Edge is a styleside, and came with fender flares. I noticed that the flareside Edges didn't have fender flares.

As for the size of the box, yeah you can fit more stuff in a styleside. If you're planning on a canopy, styleside canopies are cheaper for some reason.

I like the cleaner look of a styleside myself, but to each their own.

I have a '01 flareside and it's neat enough looking but if you are thinking about hauling a lot in them think again. I will get the styleside next! But really like the basic truck.

I managed to fit a full-size 4 wheeler in the back of my flareside. When I say "fit", i mean I am glad the 4 wheeler didnt have a 0.0001 inch longer width! :-X22

I ordered my Styleside for the look and I like it. If it were a work truck and I hauled much stuff, I would want the extra room.

Do yourself a favor: get the styleside!
ONLY advantage to flareside is looks; IF that particular look is what appeals to you.
Have had several stepside/flareside pickups in my lifetime, including the present one, 2002 XLT 4X4. I would have prefered the styleside, but this one happened to be "one of those deals you can't pass up". Luckily, I have a nice 5x8 tilt-bed trailer for auxillary hauling capability, 'cause the flareside bed on an extra-cab ain't much force.

I went with the Styleside myself, although I do like the looks of the Flairside or Stepside as well. More storage room being the main reason. Personal preference will surely come into play here. Either one looks great!!

i like the step side or splash bed just for the looks :-X22 .Styleside just looked to plain.But if its for work it dosen't realy matter as long as it gets the job done. :-X25

Flareside and stepside are the same thing.

I think "stepsides" are found on Chevy trucks. Flaresides are on Fords.

Stylesides are Fords. Fleetsides are Chevy.

We bought our Styleside with DIY projects in mind. You said the Flareside's width at the tailgate is 46". A 4'x8' sheet of plywood or drywall wouldn't quick sit flat. We also never would have gotten our new couch and loveseat home in the Flareside (why pay delivery charge when you've got a truck?) You wouldn't think that extra 8" makes a difference, but you'd be amazed.
