Heater Question

Will a 1964 econo heater fit my 1962 econo van? Is it hard to find a temperature control valve? thanks

Jimbare 06-04-2004 08:24 PM

yep it will fit. same thing. the valve is not hard to find, it is impossible to find!
an inline cable operated valve from a early/mid70s pickup will do the trick, and you can install the cable in the old control location to look stock.

Very cool. Thanks Jim. Is there a particular pickup to get that from or are most the same from the 70's.

Jimbare 06-05-2004 07:14 AM

most of the ford pickups from about 65-79 without a c had the cable operated valve. a lot of the cars had it also. a trip thru the salvage should give you a few ideas on what too look for. if you have a real parts store in your area, one with books and real parts people, they have pics of all their valves in the books. that way you can look at what you order.

put a pic or 2 in your gallery, also send me all 3 lines from you vin tag and i will get it decoded for you.

Jim,
Would it the valve look like this? http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDetails.asp?SourceArea=&SourcePage=SEARCHRESUL TS&MfrCode=STN&MfrPartNumber=20404&PartType=394&PT Set=A
It looks cable operated to me.

Sorry the link doesnt work. i went to www.advanceautoparts.com the part is a Stant 20404 Heater Valve assembly. Or would it look more like the original valve?

Jimbare 06-05-2004 10:06 PM

stant 20405 is the one i used. came off of a 70 ford pickup.

There's a 1961 Econoline heater valve on eBay. I think it's for the floor mounted heater. I'm not sure what year it moved to under the dash.

cool thanks. I think i am going to keep an eye on that. I got a pretty good heater for $20. It will be hard to pay $40 for the control assembly. The last one I saw on ebay went for $80.
