valve cover preassured up?

I have a freind with an 89 tempo the problem is he has alot of preassure in the valve cover,it spits oil out when the oilfiller cap is removed and a noticable change in engine sound,I'm not to familer with 4bangers,soI thought it might be a timing problem or a bad valve, does this make sense to anybodie.Any help would be appreciated thanx

Sound like the rings maybe. If the compression is getting past them it will build up lots of pressure in crank case. You might also check the pcv valve. Good luck Oo.

Deffinatly do a compression test.If the cylinders are not with-in 10 Psi of each other that may be your problem. If you have a buddy with a shop, try to do a leak-down test, this will tell the story.
