Searching for block heater plug location on my 97 f250 powerstroke. It's becoming a little hard to start on cold morning and thought that I'd plug it in, but I cant locate the plug. I've been told that it is a standard item... so I guess it's there somewhere.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it's like on my IDI it's down on the bottom right of the block towards the front.

Do yourself a favor and get a timer from Home Depot. Set it to activate the plug 2-3 hours before you drive it. It's much easier than waking up 2 hours early to plug it in.

Its a great suggestion, just went and did that, left the defroster on and the fan on high. When I went out to start it, the ice was gone from the windows and it was actually reasonably warm inside.

My plugin is inside the garage so I could use the $9 15amp heavy duty timer vs. having to get the $18 15amp outdoor timer.

Any issues with using the remote start while the block heater is plugged in for 5 - 10 minutes?

It can be plugged in while running. The cooling system will take care of any heat generated.

Am new here and not sure how to post a question, so I thought I would do it here. Truck was plugged in and blew the breaker, not sure if the cord is bad or the block heater. How do I change the block heater if it is determined that is the problem? Then had one heck of a time getting the truck started, about11 F this morning.

its attached to the oil cooler, right where your oil filter attaches, And its an ellement that screws into the oil cooler.

Thanks donbrown! I love this site..... you just saved me 70 bucks and an hour of my life. I was looking above the starter on my 96 and thought my truck was not equipped with a heater, Then I read your post and shazam there it was. Thanks again

these block heater draw around 1000 Wats...you need a heavy duty cable...I use a 12 gauge 50' extension....lighter gauge would pop the breaker every time....hth

hey this is a great post because i have been wondering about it. the last time mine was plugged in i had to jerk the plug out of the extension cord because it looked like someone was welding under my truck something shorted out obviosly. this gives me some ideas of where to look around and figure something out. thanks all!!!

You should be able to get a replacement cord for the block heater without having to replace the whole element and everything. NAPA would be a good place to start looking for one.
