v10 turbo
 

hey all,

i have a 2000 f250 crew, 4wd, v10.

i spoke with a very reliable source the other day concerning power and towing etc. i was informed that many of my sources gas engine buddies are using the psd turbo as a retrofit on their gas engines and that the conversion is a fairly simple one.

has any one heard of this conversion. it sounds too good to be true

Simple is a very subjective term... I'm confident that the PSD turbo setup would not be simple to the average joe to install. You would probably be much better off talking to folks that do custom turbo kits for the mustangs like turbo technology or the dozen or so other shops that build turbo kits regularily. On average it seems the turbo kits for stangs are about $4k to $5k, the truck might be more due to it being a v10. Probably easier in the long run to just buy a blower kit that is already being produced. My .02!

Hi all,

Just a few lines to let you know that we are working on a V10 turbo system for the superduty pickups. I am basically modifying our gen 2 Lightning system and adapting the major componets to the V10. The turbo will be sized for quick resonse and lots of torque down low, but still be capable of over 500 hp with the boost turned up. This unit will be ideal for big tired , lifted vehicles, or for just heavy towing .....or haulin A................I have my own 2001 Super Duty in my shop now for the preliminary fitting.

Sounds sweet, but what will the cost comparison be between your setup and say, a Paxton or similar supercharger kit? For me personally, it would have to be substantially less to justify going with a Turbo over an already tried and true supercharger design. Any cost estimates as of yet?

The turbo system would be priced about the same as the supercharger , but would give greatly increased torque and horsepower over the supercharger setup. I know this because I manufacture and sell turbo systems for the Ford Lightning pickups. My own personal 1994 Lightning has over 125,000 miles on the original turbo system I installed in 1995. It has 512 hp at the wheels and 710 torque. It runs low 11 second quarter miles, is quiet , emmission legal and as reliable as a rock. I have dynoed many v10 trucks and vans,some with superchargers and have yet to see one make over 290 hp at the wheels with around 380 torque. The turbo system I am useing on my personal V10 super duty 4X4 is a modified Lightning system with a turbo sized for low end torque and quick response. I expect horsepower to be around 350 to 380 at lower boost and as high as 450 at around 10 psi. The torque at 6 psi should be around 450 to 480 at the wheels. This is with a small turbo and could easily be upgraded to much higher power levels.

To follow up.... Turbo's are simpler than S/C's do produce more hp/tq, do not place a strain on the engine to make the power, tune similarily to a S/C, and have a cooler sound as they spool up... 8D

i just got a cummins turbo that is brand new off a creat engine and was tinkering around with the idea of putting it on my 99 v10 since i got it for free. i was going to buy a powerstroke intercooler and make my own tubeing out of ford, dodge and whatever i can find to make the intake work.

Oh yeah, I would LOVE to hear a turbo spooling up under the hood of my truck without having to listen to a clattering diesel also (heheh). Keep us posted on the progress of your system. I might be one of your first customers for this one.

Any idea on an ETA for this?
Once you have it do you think it will be very long before it will work with the 3V V10?

i checked out silver state motorsports website and they do mention a turbo 6.8l v10 which is their generation 2 system i guess. maybe give them a call or check it out

hey I have done this and it is a hoot I did not pay attention to the dates but it is done butit was not cheap....now I am doing cams in two week they had to be custome ground....it blew the clutch the first pass...I have installed a centerforce dual friction clutch it will be back on the dyno in the morning I am also building a block.
