How can you change timing
WHen I bought the truck the guy that I bought it from told me that he had advanced the timing by adjusting the crank somehow. Now I cant get ahold of him and want to put the timing back. Does anyone know what he is talkiing about and how to change it. Also my timing belt just started hitting the cover and I was wondering if thats a sign that it needs to be replaced. And what is the normal redline for the 2.3l I am shifting at like 4000 is that right.

If the belt is hitting the cover, you will soon find out whether that is a good thing or not... somewhere along the side of the road, about as far from home as you can stand.
THe previous owner may have changed the cam timing. Bring the crankshaft to TDC, and check behind the rubber plug on the belt cover. THe cam timing mark should line up with the center mark of the pointer. Don't know the year to know if you have EDIS or a distribulator. If you have a distributor, you can remove the jumper, and set the ignition timing to 10 BTDC using a timing light. EDIS is not really adjustable, but you can fake it by moving the crankshaft position sensor. tom |
it is a 94 so it has the EDIS
