EFI diagnostics shop needed.
 
Hiya all,

Do you guys know of any decent shops in eastern Massachusetts that specialise in EFI computer diagnostics ? So far the shops I've visited are unable to diagnose my pinging problem, mainly because they don't have the right diagnostic equiptment... Engine anylysers , scanners, knowledge etc...

You shouldn't really need any special equiptment to diagnose a ping, just a little knowledge and maybe some patience. How about posting your symptoms here, there is plenty of know how to help you out. Let us know what you have and when you get your ping and I'll bet we can solve it.

Hey step.

I already posted the problem in the Inline six section.

Basically the truck runs beautiful under all conditions. The problem starts when you mash on the gas pedal at highway speeds. Obviously I can avoid this by not mashing on the gas. Towing is a different story. It's impossible to avoid the ping when towing up highway grades and it forces me to drop the mph to ridiculously low speeds.

So far all diagnostics I was able to perform show nothing. Unfornately the EGR valve replacement did not fix. Tried the GM top engine cleaner with no success.

Took it to Ford dealer for diagnostics. Work order states... No problems found... Advise customer to use 93 octane fuel to reduce spark knock. I paid a $120 diagnostic fee for the dealer to tell me to do what I'm already doing. Sigh...
BTW 93 octane reduces the ping when mashing on the gas unloaded but helps very little when towing.

I need an independent, experienced diagnostic tech with advanced equiptment. I'm willing to pay the premium to get this diagnosed. A Ford trainee following a checklist is not gonna cut it with this problem.

No troublecodes were present at the time of that thread but just yesterday I got a troublecode 643 MLP sensor ( manual lever position sensor ). I don't think this is related to the ping but ya never know.

O.K., I agree that you probably do need a good tech to take a look at it. I don't believe that there is any equiptment that will isolate a ping though. This is where you will need some experience and someone willing to put a little time into it. After reading the other thread, I would say it is a timing advance issue. Like a vac from the wrong source.

Best way to find a good tech is word of mouth, so I guess you are looking in the right place. Good luck.
