Dee, There is a sticker under the hood that should tell you the correct spark plug gap , I beleive for your engine it is .044 to .046 . 054 sounds like a little too much , the info on the sticker will be correct .

Chiltons lists .044 as the gap for the 93 5.0.

LAST EDITED ON 18-May-01 AT 05:33 PM (EST)[p]I have a 92 F150 with a 302 and a 92 Grand Marquis with a 4.6 and both are gapped at .054. What does the sticker under your hood say it should be?

My 93 302 says .052-.056 on the underhood sticker. I think when I was still using the factory ignition setup, I set it at .054 to be safe.

Just bought a set of NGK plugs at the auto store. They are pre-gapped at .054. The AUTOLITE plugs (FORD) are also pre-gapped at .054. The underhood sticker says .054-.056. The Haynes manual says, however to use .044??!! Stick with the underhood specs and the pre-gapped settings. If u are using a high energy ignition and wire set then I would gap them a bit wider as well.

10 degrees BTDC, the scale is on the passenger side of the block.
