i'm thinking the oem wheels on my 82f100 are 15x7 with 5 lugs on a 41/2 inch pattern. could someone confirm that for me? any other info you wish to offer would also be helpful. i'm trying to come up with a set of used chrome wheels and i'd hate to buy the wrong wheels. lol
thanks for your help :-tap

According to the Ford CPD Parts computer there were two sizes used in 1982. If the rim is an OEM 15 x 6 it has a 4.5" bolt circle, an OEM 15 x 7 (bright argent or white spoke) has a 5.5" circle.

So says the Ford Parts computer.

i'll assume that i have the 15x6 wheels since they are the standard steel wheels. thanks for the info :-tap

The difference is between manual and power brake trucks, a factory power brake truck has the 5x4.5 with oddball brake parts, the factory manual brake trucks came with standard F150 brake parts.

thanks 82f100swb!
i've been wondering what made the difference. i have factory power booster brakes.....every thing is stock. so guess that still makes them 5 on 4 1/2. thanks again for the info:-tap

i'd measure them to be sure. start in middle of any stud, and measure across to the far side of a stud that is 2 studs away in the circle.. that gives you the size. (either 4 1/2 or 5)

just curious, are you planning to do anything wild to your truck?

btw, if you are looking for good, cheap chrome, summit used to sell US Wheel wheels. they had nice chrome for about $35-50 a rim.. I put a set on my Regal, they looked real nice, except you have to polish chrome a good bit.

hi bremen:
no, nothing wild.....it is a dark color.....burgandy, sorta dark wine......just wanted to try to brighten it up a little. i am still debating though........i kinda want to keep it as stock as i can

thenks for the wheel source.....i'll check it out :-tap

just wondering- if i had a f100, i'd swap in the f-150 brakes, and an f-150 rear. that way you could stop better, but you'd have to get different rims.. just was wondering if you were building your truck up..

Bremen: swapping to the F150 brakes up front is not cheap or easy... You need new knuckles/spindles calipers, rotors, etc... out back, it's just axles/drums, and possibly backing plates other than the standard brake hardware....
And, it won't really make much difference in stopping, a F100 is a light, low GVWR truck, and, the brakes are more than sufficent for an empty truck...
Plus, 5x4.5 wheels are dirt cheap, with a HUGE selection.... It's probably one of the most popular 5 lug patterns out there...

I didn't figure it would be; if I had a truck similar to that, i'd probably setup it up to go fast, which you probably could use a little extra brakes, just a thought though.

I didn't realise that 5x4.5 was popular.. it that a GM passenger car size? it run in my mind that my regal had that size..

Yup, 5x4.5 is a GM/Ford and Mopar RWD size... EXTREMELY common. It's also what you find on YJ and newer Jeeps(all models, except for the fullsize Cherokee), and a ton of other vehicles...

hey guys:
thanks for all the discussion......u taught me about wheels........i bought the truck when it was just a couple of years old. it has never seen any hard service.....except for the one time i loaded a slide in camper on it.
it has only a hundred thousand miles on it and it runs great. i really want to keep it as near stock as i can....maybe it'll be the best looking old truck in the easter parade...ha

the chrome wheels were a bit of a stretch for me ..... just thought i'd brighten it up a bit. there are no plans to build it up or to modify it much at all. i do enjoy keeping all its parts updated. i want it to be dependable.

thanks again for your comments:-tap

good luck.. Chrome does look good. Myself personally had those black d-windowed rims (like the nascar cars have) on my 84 2wd. It was dark teal, or something along that line. looked pretty sharp until i wrecked it like 30 times.
