Could You Spare and Engine?

If anyone withing 100 miles of Minneapolis has a spare 351M or 400 engine in running condition they just don't want, PLEASE contat me. I need to get my 79 F-150 running before the evil people in the zoning department make me get rid of it! I only ask that you don't dump a trashed engine on me (Someone already did). I may be able to pay a small amount for one if that helps, but the wife doesn't seem too happy about me spending a lot of money one the "bulletproof" truck I talked her into letting me buy!

Anyway, Thank You,

Tony 763-566-6326

whats wrong with the motor in it now?
unless its got a cracked block, or it got blown up by a tactical nuke, might be easier to rebuild than replace. . .cheaper anyhow

Could You Spare and Engine?

The engine that was in the truck was a 351M that the previous owner (my brother) installed replacing the original 460 after it started knocking. Personally I'd have just fixed the original engine, but he put this thing in there which was a big stinky pile of...well you know...To make a long story even longer, I bought the truck tried to make it work, and in the process pulled the engine to replace the main seal and while I was at it do an overhaul.

Once I had the engine disasembled I was horrified to find that one of the oil rings had broken at some point and gouged a rather deep groove over an inch wide in the cylinder. My other brother the machinist brought over his fancy measuring tools and we guessed that at .030 over we may still not get rid of it. Budget wise machining just isn't in the cards.

This is a $750 reasonably clean solid truck worthy of some effort, but not a thousand dollars worth of engine work. In the mean time I lost my job and have decided to return to school further restricting the budget for this extra vehicle.

My hopes are that someone out there has a 351M or 400 that may be in good shape that they don't want decorating their garage anymore and would be willing to either give up because they are really nice, or sell for a nominal amount because they are nice, but not really nice. I understand this is a long shot, but its the only one that the truck any I have for now.

The plus side to all of this is that I do have a parts engine to scavenge from if need be, so I would be open to engines missing heads or a manifold or oil pan that I can pull from my old engine. I would even be willing to trade some parts for the engine. I have two engines in addition to the one that came out of the truck that someone gave me that I later found were rusted solid inside, but the head castings seem good and I have a few oil pans and valve covers that may be of interest to the right person.

Anyway, I'm a little desperate, I've always wanted an old Ford truck and if I can't find an engine soon I'll have to get rid of it, so if anyone can help me out, I'd love to hear from them.

i have seen some trick sleeve jobs where they cut out the cylinder pretty heavy and insert a sleeve, i always go to red rooster for my stuff but i am sure other shops do it. i had a 400 once that ran tops, i let it go in the truck with the c6 and 9in for 150, i still cry about it, i was young 4 years ago and knew no better. a month ago i had a 351 w i might have parted with but i put that in my 79 and yanked the 351 c for my 55, if i come across anything i will let u know, even if it is a small block, u can find a cheap trans in the small block pattern, i have heads galore for a small block, i dont look to get rich off of. parts cars for those years should be plentiful?

i am not sure what exactly u r looking for or looking to spend but i yanked the 69 windsor out of that f150, i have a ton of parts i am looking to sell, clip, doors, c4, the block was overhauled but i think it cracked a piston, needs overhaul again but it has a new roller cam edelbrock performer and a set of new block hugger headers and gt40 heads from a lincoln. i have a basket case of parts i wasnt looking to sell yet but i might, everything is 4 sale, i might let it all go for...? i am pulling the rest this weekend and will save the cradle mounts, axle and such. i have everything. not looking to solicit sorry if it sounds like i am, but just replying, honestly.

Guys, Lets please keep these discussions on an email basis only or use the free classifieds to sell or search for parts. Sorry, its just a site policy to keep wasted bandwidth down.

Anyone from Southwestern Minnesota have a 302 EFI. The crankshaft kinda crapped out on me the other day. Email me back if you can help out a fellow Minnesotian.

http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=105144103&ssPageName=L2 You can find a fresh 302 with oil pan, front cover, valvecovers for $600. I ordered an engine from them and it looks great.

I know this is an old thread, but I just re-read it & to let you in on a little secret!
They can not make you get rid of it if you license it. Regardless whats wrong with it, if it is licensed they can't do a damn thing. I'd pay the $40.00 a year to put new stickers on it just to get them off your back.

I'm saying this from experience, had the same problem here with a Monarch I had. The city even took me to court, I showed the judge that the car is & has been curently licensed & the judge kicked it out of court & the city never bothered me after that.

You may have to push it around a little to make it look like it is moving though.
