Be interesting to watch this one come together

IDIoit 02-05-2017 08:15 AM

hope to have it running by the end of the month.
14 gauge sheet metal will be here Tuesday, by then I should have the bracing for the new floor done.
got a lightning seat to install
fuel lines, brake lines, wiring harness all on order
itll go pretty smooth, don't expect any major hiccups minus the innercooler.
but well cross that road when we come to it.
also have a RSK stuff on order.

a slow start, but a start none the less

will the exhaust clear the floor boards? it looks awful tight there.

IDIoit 02-07-2017 09:21 AM

those manifolds will not be used.
ill be building a set of headers.

some of that tubing may be cut out after I start layin down the 14 gauge.
I.E. the cross over on the trans, I think im gonna radius it up a bit.
this is all there just to get a basic outline of the floor.

the drivers side is golden, but the passenger side would be pretty tight, but still can be done.

if you think that's tight, try doing headers on a 427 in a 65 falcon lol, THAT was TIGHT.

tjc transport 02-07-2017 11:36 AM

hell headers on a 289 in a 65 falcoon is tight. with a 427 about the only way is to use fender well headers with the shock towers removed.

yep, I had reinforced the unibody and put a straight axle under it.
admittedly, not some of my best work, but that was 10 years ago.

didn't get to work much on the chero today, got some 14 gauge,
and got the firewall outlined with box tubing.
tomorrow ill be cutting some sheet metal

This ought to be an interesting build! Looking good so far!

So why is the whole powertrain set so far aft? Seems like it won't be much fun come GP/injector time.

the nature of having an IDI in a 63 ranchero
the engine is in the proper place for the frame.
will have a removeable dog house on the inside.
also wouldn't be hard to pop the cab bolts and lift it.

Subbing, lookin like a pretty cool swap! My buddy has a 76 Ranchero and I'm about to force him to do this lol!

IDIoit 02-09-2017 09:44 PM

not much to report today. cleaned up, welded some nuts into the cab mounts, and plated em in to keep debris out.
the sheet metal for the floor I decided to send to my buddy to brake the ends so it will be a cleaner install, but he couldn't do it today, I had to leave it with him.
I really need a 6' brake, I was 6" too long for the 4 footer.
its ok tho, the next couple of days im hopin back on the super duty, for a 4" lift and axle swap.
