Interesting. I suppose if you put it in a big enough cardboard box, cut out on one side it might kinda help keep the mess down? Put a light in the corner so you can see. Just like a sand blast cabinet.

That's the rig I use to rebuild carbs. Works great! I just do it outside. I have a bead blast cab (table top) for the fine work.

I like the Lysol bath soaking to clean a carb less messy.

Lysol????? Speak to me about this Rich. I use Berryman's carb soak solution which is like $13X.00 counting tax for a 5 gallon pail. And I got 2 well used up pails of it I have no idea how to get rid of.:'(

I THINK what was meant was Lye soap. (alkaline). --alternative name to sodium hydroxide. But, I could be wrong. He might have meant Lysol (?).

Lysol only comes in a spray can, afaik. It's probably been banned by now, to save endangered e. coli and polio viruses. Lye is used to make meth, so is probably kept locked up with the porn mags and 32 oz mountain dews.

Others have said the pine-sol works well, especially when heated up.

I wouldn't want to be in a enclosed doors with it heated up as it's bad enough non-heated if your soaking it uncover is bad if not out doors.

Well, had the Doomberg legislation on soft drinks gone through on 32 oz drinks, you could have just bought TWO 16 oz drinks instead.

You're just an ignorant, uninformed adult who doesn't know what's best for your own good. You need the guidance (and the legislation) from others to set you on the right path to save yourself from yourself.

But hey, let's get back to bumpsides.

I've tried the Pine-Sol method without success. My carb method is:
1. Light scrub with a brass brush to knock off the high spots of crud. Don't use a steel brush or you will be removing pot metal from the carb.
2. Soda blast.
3. Vinegar wash to neutralize the soda. Otherwise you may get some white powder 'rot' where the pot metal is actually disintegrating.
4. Paint thinner rinse just for good measures. Gives it a nice finish.
5. If I want the part bright, I'll glass bead it and then 0000 steel wool.
