I'm contemplating purchasing a camping trailer and am trying to figure put my axel ratio. Can anyone tell me how to do this ? Thanks, Carol |
Figuring axel ratio ??
Your Ford's axle ratio on rear wheel drive is on a tag on the final drive assembly (pumpkin). Look on the tag for a decimal number like 3.55 That will be the ratio.
Here are some neat calculators.. http://www.jeepster.org/swchapter/calculation.html |
Figuring axel ratio ??
Homer, I went to the link you provided, good info. I was wondering what the original tire size has to do with the equation. I don't know what the original tire size is and the door jam sticker is damaged where it lists the original tire size.

Gear ratios / Original tire size . . .
The gear ratios are important as to how many turns the driveshaft
turns for every ONE turn of the wheel . The height of the tires , or more accurately the circumference = The outer diameter length in inches . Very important to how many turns it will take to " do " a mile . Gear Ratio Calculator I have an old truck that has the original tire size listed : {{{ only as 6.00 X 16 }}} can anyone tell me how that equates into our NEW world of tire dimensions ? I am using the tire size of 235 / 75 R / 15 although , besides the rim size being smaller than original , Something tells me that just by having a " wrong " rim size makes the speedometer inaccurate . Ok, I've done plenty of rambling ...... To get back to your question / answer : I suspect that if you were to check back to when your truck was new , there ought to have been a brochure or some other info page , etc ,etc ... All for now , Tim |

Thanks, Carol It'll be necessary to pull the gears out of the rear axle . . . . . On the FORD 9 inch it's also needed to remove the driveline from that U - joint . ..... I'm told that the ratio numbers are stamped into the ring gear . OTHERWISE : it's stamped into a tag ( supposed to be ) bolted to the rear housing . |
That post you answered was over ten years old.....
