302 headers or exhaust help

I put a 1985 302 and an AOD in my 56. Keeping stock suspension and steering. Now have what looks like little or no room for stock style exhaust or headers. Would probably prefer headers over stock but really just want to get past this problem. Numerous searches has shown that I am not alone but never a definitive answer. What have you done? Can't afford to just keep buying parts until I find a set that works. :-huh Thanks

I do not have a 302, however, the stock Ford log style rear exit manifold should clear the stock steering. Hopefully someone will come along with solid experience.

i am using 79-93 style mustang shorty headers and a mustang H-pipe. plenty of clearance... but I do not have a stock suspension or steering box, so I can't speak to how it would work with those.

I have used early mustang manifolds before, But no one can tell you for sure, as we do not know exactly where you motor is mounted.

On my 56 with a straight axle, I went with the block huggers from Speedway Motors. The Mustang shorty's wouldn't work. Good luck.:-X22

On my 1985 302 in my 49 Ford with Volare suspension I used 65-66 Mustang exhaust manifolds. They aren't high performance but they are very compact. :)

Does anyone think that long tube headers are an option? The 292 I took out had long tubes but the stock engine mounts were front and back instead of at the center like the 302.

I put a 302 in mine, stock suspension and Toyota PS. Used the long tube headers from MidFifty, and they fit like a glove.

AcesHigh can we get some pics? Right now I have a 400 in and Toyota manual I am getting ready to install the new series 400 power box from mid fifty and down the road I want to get rid of the 400 and put in a 302 so pictures would help for future. I do have a set of bbc shorty headers for the 302.Thanks

I also used block hugger headers on mine. 302 with AOD in a 51. Fits great!

Mine is an F1 but Ive got a few pics of when I was putting in some block huggers from SPEED WAY MOTORS on my 302, They are mixed pics but there is one of each side, the passenger side has plenty of room, and the drivers side fits but not a lot of extra room.
