'96 4.9 A/C Clutch Removal
 

My A/C clutch doesn't engage, even when one pin is grounded and 12v is run to the other pin on the clutch. I've removed them before using the threaded puller, but this clutch doesn't seem to have any threads for the tool to engage. Am I just not seeing the internal threads, or is it removed in another way? Thanks!

My 95 302 F150 uses a screw to hold the A/C clutch on. I think some of the clutches require a puller like a three point if there are no threads to use a bolt to back it off. Are clutches available by themselves? Most of the newer compressors come with clutches not like the old days where they sold separate.

I was thinking that it would require a different puller when I removed the center screw. NAPA sells A/C clutches by themselves or with a compressor. My compressor is fine, it's just that the clutch won't activate. I'll see if Advance or AutoZone has a puller for this type of clutch. Thanks for confirming the lack of threads on the clutch!

If it is the same as the clutch on my 97 F-250 diesel, I just used the center bolt to get most of the front parts off, and all that was left was the electromagnet which was pressed onto the compressor. I just used a big screwdriver to pry it off in strategic places and tapped the new one on with a hammer and some blocks, as it was simply a press fit onto the compressor.
