'97 Powerstroke Low Power Gains

Hi all, I've been considering buying a programmer for my 1997 F-350 7.3, but after reading some information on PHP's website I may have just changed my mind. My truck already meets all of the prerequisites for a programmer (cold air intake, gauges, exhaust, etc.) but from what I understand, the stock injectors are "smaller volume". Due to this, PHP claims that horsepower gains from any programmer max out at about 60 HP for my model year. So my question: Is it worth spending $400 on a programmer that may not make much difference anyway, and is there truth behind PHP's writings? Thanks in advance

realistically, it is probably true that the truck can't gain more than 60 hp. If you would chip it, a TS would probably be the best way to go. My chip has a stock, high idle, 50hp, 75hp, 100hp, 140hp settings. Because our injectors are only 90cc, stage ones or higher are needed to achieve this power. However, the high idle is great in the winter, especially in cold climates. In addition to the rather small hp gains, the automatic transmission can't handle much more than stock power and the extra power can damage other parts. So if you need the extra power, go for it but plan to change the fluids more often and maybe have some larger repair bills in the future.

Buy a php hydra.
It has room for 17 tunes.tunes are emailed and downloaded by the owner.
The owner can purchase tunes from multiple different tuning people.
The best part is when future modifications are added then it just needs tunes updated.no more sending the chip out for programming and waiting....waiting...waiting...

Yea 60 hp...that is 25% gain.

Doing it is just the first step toards a complete transformation to the dark side!

I planned on just a few mods..yea that worked out great !

I can see a huge difference with my 6 position TS chip. It woke the engine up a lot. I'm glad I put it on. The high idle is awesome.
