throttle return

My name is Tyler, I drive a 79 ford f150 ranger with a 4.9 inline 6, c6 tranny auto Rwd. Im 18 and wanting to know new things about my truck, it is my first car and I'm planing on driving it for as ling as it lives. I will be joining the Marines this fall and wanting to get my truck in good running condition for when my family will use the truck when I'm at bootcamp! The newest problem that I'm having is the throttle return isn't going into the close postion, it still wants to drive when I'm coming to a stop. please help me its my daily driver!! God bless:)

I have a 1978 F100 with a 302 with C6 auto and my truck is doing the samething, I have adjusted the idle and that hasnt helped, also when its in Park it idles real high and when stopped at a stop sign it will go foward if I let off the brake, maybe someone has had the same problem and knows a fix

Get stiffer/stronger throttle return springs. Better yet if they are dual in case one breaks.

tyler welcome to FTE, it sounds like you need to spray lube the linkage points on the carb. And ck the throttle return spring condition, some times you can get another spring and put it inside the other one and connect them both.

Stuck or sticking gas pedal can be sticky linkage, or stuck on something like the underside of the air filter housing ect...if the high idle is not caused by that, then the carb probably needs adjusted.

Is your choke functioning properly?

Welcome to FTE

Your truck has an accelerator cable (9A758), it may be binding up. Spray some graphite into the section where it attaches to the accelerator pedal (9735).

hey thanks for the input, but ive tried all of that i bought new spring and its not helping and the accelator cable is new. and my carbs been adjusted. its the little round bolt that pushes the throttle body in the closed postition that wont work, Ive tried spraying them all with lube and nothing. Im thinking where the trans controls the throttle return needs to me adjusted but Im not postive.

Take a picture of it and post it if you can

the circled please is what is not going into the closed position. I've tried new spring adjusting the length of it and lots of lube. i don't see the linkage hitting anything it just stops at this position like its all the way down.

Do not mean to stray off topic, but Where can I find the gas pedal thats on the bottom Right in the pic? Does it not protrude through the firewall?
