no guts when towing
I have a 97 7.3 powerstroke automatic 2wd f250. Recently towed my 7,000 lb camper. This truck was weak. It shouldn't be that way. Powerstroke should haul that campers ass down the road with no problem. By the way, this only has 153,000 miles on it. Any suggestions as to what is going on with it?

There's not a whole lot of information here for us to work with... It could be normal, or it could be a number of things. 7,000lbs is probably heavier than you think.
If you have an android, buy a bluetooth dongle, buy the "Torque Pro" app, set it up to read ICP, IPR duty cycle, and Boost pressure. Then get back to us. |
according to the manual, that truck is rated for 14k. it wont be fast but it'll do it. did it slow down alot on hills or did it just feel sluggish? and can you compare it to another time you towed 7k+?

You didn't mention if the transmission is shifting down. Try shifting down manually and go through the gears. If it is stuck in overdrive, it will seen gutless.
|
Yes it slowed down on hills
|
It shifts down, then immediately goes right back into overdrive
|
Take it out of OverDrive
|
That 7k turn into 8-10 depending on how much it loaded
|
Is it a fifth wheel or bumper pull. The taller fifth wheels have to push a lot of wind

You got that right Mike. My 12K 5er weighted in at 16K with all our junk in there!
That's right Nick, like pulling a parachute thru the air! |
