What is an easy way to determine engine size?

Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but I am not very familiar with Ford trucks. I recently bought a 1988 F150 Lariet. I saw the original window sticker in the glove box. It listed the optional 350 engine and dual fuel tanks, so I would guess it has the 350 engine.

However, the man from whom I purchased it said it was a 305. He said the engine and trans were replaced at 100K miles. That was 10K miles ago. Now, that man purchased it from a recently widowed female friend, so he may not know the trucks history.

What is an easy way to check what size engine is actually installed?

I ask because I am having some minor issues, and want to be able to accuratly list items when I ask some questions about what troubles I have. So far, the truck seems nice, but there are some issues I need to resolve.

thanks

Chris

I also have an 88 F-150 4x4 with daul tanks. However It has a 351. The 350 is a GM motor isnt it. As for i.d.'n the motor the 7 digit of the vin number (should be a letter) tells you what size the motor is. Mine is an "H". Since your motor has been replaced you'll have to get the number of the block.

A 350 is a GM motor, also, a 305 is a GM motor. 302 and 351 are ford motors.

Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, 32" BFG Muds
NEW PICS IN MY GALLERY!! :-)

Then theres:
88' F-250 Superduty 351 + c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 and a
3 spd column shifter baby. Top speed, 65mph, Go Baby Go!

The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L

:-X18 Well...My Bad...

I am so used to Chevy stuff, I made bad mistakes in my guess at the size engine in my first message.

I now quote from the Original Window Sticker:

1988 F-150 4X2 Regular Cab
XLT Lariat 133 WB Styleside
5.0L EFI V8 Engine
Automatic O/D Transmission

The man I bought it from used 302 as the engine size in his advertisment. He is traveling for a few weeks, so I can't talk to him.

A 5.0L (liter) is a 302 cubic inch so I would imagine you have the 302.
