Petronix I.E.

Good morning. I'd like to upgrade from points to a Petronix I.E.

Please tell me, if possible, which unit I need for a '50 F1, 6 cyl, 6 volt positive ground with a FOMOCO distributor.

I'm hoping there's a fellow member that's completed this that'll have a concrete part number to share.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I converted my six over to pertronix. I called and talked to one of their techs to make sure I got the right one. The guy at the local parts store didn't have a clue on which one to use, even though they were a distributor for Pertronix. Simple process, and I'm happy with the results.

Thanks HBN. please tell me, might you still have the box it came in for a part number or remember the part number?

Also might you have an extra 6 volt wide belt generator pulley you could stand to part with?

Thanks either way in advance, Douglas

After talking to the Pertronix tech, I ordered the 1266P6 from Mac's. I believe its the one for the D shaped distributor shaft. Sorry, but I don't have another pulley.

Forgot to ask, did you also "upgrade" the coil as well? Thanks again.

Do I ever understand about the local parts store not having a clue. I'm doing a restore on a '56 Shasta trailer. 2 different time on the paint mixing's, well it's gone all wrong. The first time on a plain ole red, we got a pink. The second on a plain ole silver, we pretty much got a clear coat with just a hint of silver. Didn't even come close to covering the primer.

Calling Petronix is the best bet. My 1956 F100 truck has a 272 Y Block in it but the distributor is a later model (57 up) with both vacuum and centrifugal advances. There are two different sets for the different distributors.
About the coil YES change it out too. When I changed both the ignition (Ignitor III) and coil (Flamethrower III) I also removed the resistor (OKed in the accompanying literature) off the firewall.
Very pleased with the results!
