I thought the stock ones were supposed to work too but they are deff short idk what the deal is

Yeah that is strange, I got the same cam(XE264HR-14) in a 5.0 roller with stock heads and the stock pushrods were the right length. How much too short are they? And did those pushrods come with that motor?

brandon mauldin 08-23-2014 12:54 PM

Yes the push rods were the same ones that were in it and I never measured them but they are deff shorter than before. I could spin them before but now I can pretty much wiggle them around. There's not much difference in the 12 that I have and the 14 you have right?

No the cams are identical except for the lobe separation angle. You need to make sure the lifters aren't collapsed when testing for pushrod length, one simple way to do that is to dismantle one(be careful there is a spring inside) and replace the guts with washers so that the plunger cannot collapse when the rocker is torqued down. That simulates full oil pressure so you can get an accurate measurement. It is possible you need slightly longer pushrods.. different heads so anything is possible.

Well idk the same heads and same push rods worked fine with my stock cam... Maybe I was just in a hurry and put somthin back together wrong idk I'll look at it again when I get home

You recommend any good springs?

I think I may have found the problem, the cam I have the (xe264hr-12) has a lift off .544 the one you have (xe264hr-14) has a lift of .512.. Is that why your stock push rods worked and mine didn't..?

No and no. Both of these cams produce 0.512" lift with 1.6 rockers and 0.544" lift with 1.7 rockers, and that has no effect on pushrod length.

Hey man when I got home I decided to take a drill and old distributer gear and pump up the oil in the motor, when I started to pump it all the lose push rods tightened up and actually seemed like they were where they needed to be! But the moment I stopped pumping the oil the pushrods got really lose again...?
