what engine do I have????
I got a 1980 ford F250 for a donor parts truck. the motor it had aftermarket valvepan covers, intake, and carb installed so I can't tell from the original stickering what it is. The casting number on the block above the starter is D7TE-A-2-E. Can the motor be determined from this?? The trucks VIN number indicates that it originally had a 302 in it, but I don't think it's the factory motor.

Hi blick, I believe it's a 351 M 400

Count the valve cover bolts.
|
Each valve pan cover has 8 bolts.
|
351M/400 has 8 bolts.
351C does also, but the D7... (1977) eliminates that as a possibility. If it's a 400 it is worth a little more than a 351M. Easier to bring a 400 into line power wise. The blocks were the same, so the casting number is no help. In fact, nothing external is any help. See here, the first few posts and the final post tell the tale. Short version: Pull the pan. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...g-numbers.html |
