If he dropped it or banged it while it was off for painting it may well just need polarized.

Just re-read your posts - if you painted the engine that won't help anything, the return path for the generator itself is through the block. Everything has to be clean and tight electrically speaking. If there is paint on the generator mounting pads, brackets and such, that might do it.
High resistance is especially a problem for generator systems. Check the regulator itself, too, it is grounded on the fender apron on mine, but still has a dedicated factory ground lead going to it for this reason. Sent from my iPhone using IB AutoGroup |

That's a beautiful '60 there, Gus! Nothin' says "get outta my way" like a good solid brush guard.

Wil try it out this weekend, been busy lately and haven't had a chance to start it back up
|
Tried it again today, light still stayed on. Took it off and had it bench tested at a small shop that still works on them. It put out nothing, completely dead

I have access to a friend that has several good GM alternators, now
where can I source the 1 wire regulator, do parts stores carry it? |
the ford alternator link I sent only has 1 ground wire and 1 wire to the battery, no external regulator needed sir
|
I know, I am wanting to do this cheaper than 82 bucks
|
I see said the blind man to the deaf mule, the regulators I saw were from $40-$120 but those were the OE style...wish I could help ya more
