Please help me change out my 2bbl carb...
 

So I have the 239 flathead in my truck and I bought a rebuilt carb for it. I can tell the accelerator pump in the carb that is on the truck is bad. I got my other carb recently and began looking it over. I have the Ford EAB 94 carburetor. Everything looks the same on the carb that I purchased from the one that is on the truck for the exception of small cone type of thing that is on the front left portion of the carb. What is that? Do I need it? Here is a photo of the carb currently on the truck...

Do I need to get a different portion of the accelerator cable to attach to this on the new carb? Here is a pick of the new carb...

The carb you have is configured for a manual transmission. See the first pic below.

You need the linkage and throttle shaft for an automatic or a multi-carb setup. See the second pic below (carb on the right). The linkage ball has a nut on the back and is removable.

Added note: You can swap the throttle shafts from your rebuilt and original carbs. However, some of them have the butterflies riveted in instead of screws. It would still be doable, just more trouble. You would also need to be sure the shaft doesn't have wear grooves that can cause a vacuum leak.

I see. Of course my truck has an automatic and the new carb does not have the removable ball (its fixed). Can I just change the accelerator linkage to work to hook up to the ball? What is the reason for different linkages from manual to automatic? Also, Can you tell me what the thing is that is bolted to the left front of the carb?

You might be able to find the part that snaps to the ball that can be used with your existing linkage. If you can find a threaded rod to connect the two.

I don't know much about the Fordomatic but I'm going to guess it has a passing gear. The difference in the linkage could have something to do with that. If it doesn't have a passing gear then I haven't a clue.

The piece on the front is called a "Dashpot". It's like a little damper to keep the throttle from closing two quickly, to prevent stalling.
