What's up with this front end?

At first, this truck really intrigued me because it's described as still having a flathead six with modern look with the newer wheels and seat. But then I noticed the front end. What is going on with the lower part of that grill and those two lower fenders? Fiberglass with a VERY bad fit? I can't figure it out. Nevertheless, it's a pretty solid looking truck.

Might be larger truck upper fenders with F1 lowers. Definitely not a stock look.

Looks like the lower fenders are pushed or bent way back near the frame.

Hmmmm, that is odd

My guess is a mismatch between F1 parts and larger truck parts like FortyNiner suggested.

Even it the fender bottoms were from a F-2 to F-6 they would still fit better around the grill, the trucks up to F-6 all share the same grills. The side view of the truck seem to show the longer F-1 angled seem but I couldn't blow them up enough to see that are real good.

If they were from a F-7 or 8 they wouldn't fit at all because the grills on the larger truck are a lot wider than the smaller truck.

I have a feeling there are two things going on here to make it look odd. First, the center part is a fiberglass piece that doesn't exactly match the fenders. Second, I think there's a darker colored paint or primer on the fender under the head lights so it makes it look like there's a gap or shadow when there isn't one. Same with the area around the frame notch on the fenders, it makes it look like their setting further back than the center panel. This truck looks like it could have had some quickie body work done to it and then had a quick coat of beige epoxy primer hosed onto it.

Also, maybe the person who installed the fender made the common mistake of thinking the top edge of the fender bottom should match up with the lip of the upper fender when there should be a difference to mimic the body line on the back of the fender. In trying to line up the two lips he might have pushed the fender bottom back some.

Those are my guesses.

The lower fenders look like they hit the frame where they should. Almost looks like the grill is possibly put in at an angle, with the bottom sticking out further than the top, then bolted the gravel pan to the bottom grill support.

I have a hard time believing that both lower fenders could be pushed back that far without some significant damage being evident.

My guess is that the lower valance is home made. What is the black around the grille, looks like rubber? Someone should call...

Doc, who is the member who lives in Lexington? He was at TS '13. He used to live in the Chicago area. I think it's Dave, 49f3dls, but his location says "Central KY", the person I am thinking, I think, list their location as "Lexington". Maybe he could check out the truck and report back.

To that member, I am sorry I don't remember who you are. I get lost with all these board names. I know who I'm talking about, I just don't remember your name.
