List of item needed for 302/AOD swap
I have been looking for a "check" list sort of thing to show what someone needs to do a complete 302/AOD swap into a 48-50 F1. There are tons of various posts but can't seem to find all the information in one place. Does someone have a list they can post?
I already have a 302 out of a 1977 Bronco (has rear sump) I have a AOD out of a 82 ??? |
This should be a good thread so I'll subscribe.

Here's some reading to get you started:

Thanks for posting that but most of the links are for EFI stuff. I have a carbed 302. I guess was hoping for a checklist type list. I love FTE but a lot of the postings get mixed up and a lot gets lost in all the postings. I have spent hours researching the subject. I lot of guys say "don't do this" or "do do that" but they never say what the reasoning is for this position. Also, a lot of the posts reference getting a certain part but never give what part # they are talking about. Simply saying "oh, NAPA has that" but they never say what it is. Don't mean to sound negative just think it would be better with a sticky checklist. Thanks.

I can understand a bit where you are coming from. When I first joined FTE many people referenced old articles and posts that suggested items that haven't been in production or readily available for years. Having said that, FTE, as I am sure you would agree, can be an awesome place for reference and knowledge. Having said that, I will start out by giving an outline of the parts and pieces and someone with more knowledge can maybe fill in the blanks.
Radiator Coolant hoses to/from radiator and most likely heater hoses Fuel Lines and fuel pump w/filter Engine (302 in this case) Carb Carbed Intake Exhaust Manifolds/Headers Complete Exhaust System for a V8 New Mounting brackets to frame for engine New transmission bracket/mount Starter AOD transmission Torque Convertor Lokar or similar floor shifter Driveshaft Hope that helps |
There's also going to be flex plate, torque converter matching as well as a Lokar (or similar) ATV cable and it's adjustments. Drive shaft will probably need shortened and you'll need the AOD yoke too.:-huh
I agree that postings never seem to end with a list telling you to do this and that's all you need to do. But one of the problems is every truck is different. If they told you to cut 4" off your drive shaft and then yours was too short:-hair I've had best luck seeing a post and then PMing the FTE member and asking questions. But now that you've opened the can of worms we'll be looking for your checklist.:-X21 |

Thanks that is what I was looking for... one other question -
When I picked up my 302 the other day, I had oil running out the pilot hole area of the area (like around the crankshaft) . The motor doesn't have a flex plate or transmission attached. Is that normal for oil to run out there? Sorry if its a stupid question. |
