New guy with 48 F1?
Hey everyone. Wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I'm Andrew from Dallas Tx. Been lurky on the site for awhile and just bought a new to me 48 F1 or so I think. I was wondering if someone could help my with the numbers I have. On the title I received it lists the serial number as 71FM110062 8RT500 and on the firewall it has the following: 10CH 4A 14A Do these numbers mean anything? I know there is a hidden number stamped on the frame but I have yet to find it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome Andrew! The vin is on the top side of the passenger side frame rail between the radiator and block. I don't recognize the number you shared. I take it there isn't a plate on either the firewall or the glove box?

Thanks for the welcome. No, the truck has been stripped of all the data plates. There are no tags on the truck of any kind. I guess I will have to find the "hidden vin". Just curious of those numbers had any meaning.

Welcome! Those look like TX-assigned replacement VIN numbers, nothing OEM. Check the frame rail if it's still there (not modified with different suspension).

Welcome to FTE. Here is a key to the firewall/cowl stampings: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...392c937a1e.jpg Your number (10CH 4A 14A) doesn't make a lot of sense to me but they are hard to read sometimes and if it was 1CH that would be a 1951 Chicago Plant built cab. 4 would be a spur gear 4 speed (w/granny low & no synchros) and A would mean that the truck was originally painted black. There should be a 5 digit plant sequence number after that. But I'm guessing and there are some others with more experience on here that can correct me if I'm wrong. How about posting some pictures? Once again, Welcome :-partybud |
