My 1965 F100 Project
I just bought this '65 F100 for $350.00 about a month ago. The motor turns free but has no carb. I am going to put an Edelbrock performer intake and an Edelbrock 650cfm carb on it and drive it for a while, as a rat rod, before I start doing any restoration to it.
I hope to have it running by September so I can drive it to the cruise in at Honest Charley Speed Shop / Coker Tire, located in Chattanooga, TN. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...2adf730276.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...912e4f06b5.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f0c70239e2.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9715d0406f.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d578d2703b.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9142c9a1d1.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...7eeb5acd8f.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9eeb4aeb9a.jpg 352 |
Awesome looking patina you got going on the truck. You got a Killer deal on that for sure. What are your plans for it down the line nice paint job restored or what? How's the body condition? Any real bad rust issues or anything?
|
It was thinking about lowering it a little, maybe a late model 302 with 5 speed in the floor, 285/70r15 in the back 255/70r15 in front. I want to use the '60 model hub caps that i have on it but put 15x10's on back and 15x8's on front. I thought about turning it into a short bed but i kinda like long beds myself.
The paint was originally black and white two tone but I was thinking about painting it huntington blue and white. I keep thinking of oreos when I see a black and white paint job. |
The body is very straight but the cab corners and the floors are rusted through but not too bad. Of course there is quite a bit of surface rust. The good thing is it will make one bad rat rod until I can start on the rest.
The bed floor will have to be redone. it is rusted all the way across the front of the bed and it looks like someone used a cutting torch to cut out drain holes. but the bed sides are really good and straight. |

This is my grandpaw and his brand new 1966 F100. It had bucket seats, 351 cleveland with overdrive, and a rotary phone.( when the phone would ring the horn would blow. |
This is basically all of the rust holes.

Wow, thing has it's ups and downs but it is pretty complete as far as trim and panels etc..The engine isn't the original one. That came out of a Galaxie or some other car. Maybe a Tbird Fairlane ? Looks to be a 63. I have the correct carb for it if it is a 2V. Doubtful I will use it. could pm if you have interest (cheap + shipping) Before you start buying up stuff to throw at it you may want to locate a carb to drop on it and see if it will run and how healthy it is. tHE SEAT BACK IS IN GREAT SHAPE! wANT TO SAVE MINE TO SEW INTO A REFURB.
Make for a fun project. Best of luck with it, keep the thread updated. |
Why do you think it's not the original engine?
|
'65 and later FE engines had different style valve covers with breather/oil fill on one side and PCV on the other. The intake manifold on '65 and later did not have provision for breathing/oil fill as the one in your picture does. Yours is most likely and older car engine, in my opinion.

Wish I could find a NOS seat cover for my Sahara Beige 66 with that sweet embossed logo on it.
Mine still has the floormat with the logo...but as far as I can tell, reproduction seat covers with the logo don't exist, although I've heard rumors that SMS sells the vinyl with the embossed "Ford" and gear logo. I guess I need to call them and find out for sure. When you re-do your seats, try to salvage the vinyl part with the logo and see if the upholsterer can work it into the new upholstery. |
Ya you're right. I wasn't thinking about them not coming with cleveland engines. Thats just what he always told me was in it.

Of course the repros don't have the right fabric or the logo as they are more generic. You will need to get the actual correct fabric from SMS and have someone good make it into a seat cover. SMS does the embossing of the logo if you want to pay for it also.
My original and my new seat. The embossing also includes the vertical lines on either side of the logo also. Tint off in the floor picture. |
Nice ride to be; I hope to make it to the cruise in in September; if I can switch time at work. I would as mention invest in engine parts beyond stock until I'm forsure the thing runs well; get a salavage yard carb and run it; then if needed buy a Holley 2 barrel....Just my thoughts...........
