Slight delay going into reverse from drive

Hi all,
Today I noticed that our 5R110 was delaying slightly when shifting from drive to reverse. It was probably about a 1-2 second delay but it replicated itself twice in a row. There was no delay going from reverse to drive. It is just an engagement delay. We are running a Superchips Heavy Tow tune on the truck, it is a 2006 6.0 Powerstroke. Has anybody encountered this before?

Thanks!

mine has done that since a got the truck.52k and 6 years later it still does it,but otherwise works great, transmission shop said I needed a rebuild, that was also 6 years ago.

How many miles on this truck?
Have you checked the transmission fluid with the truck warmed up and running on level ground?
Does the fluid smell and look burnt?
Maybe time to service the transmission with fresh fluid and filter..

A normal engagement is 1-2 seconds. If yours is taking longer than that it isn't quite right. Disconnecting the batteries and letting it relearn the parameters it needs MIGHT help.

If your fluid has at least 30k miles, new fluid will probably help. It could also be a solenoid starting to get sticky. Sometimes new fluid will clear that up, sometimes it takes a new solenoid.

01 f350 drw,

I just purchased my 01 at the time and within a month it started the delay like yours. turned out to be the torque converter. ended up rebuilding whole tranny with upgraded torque converter
