2v 5.4 to 3v 5.4 swap
I have a 1998 f 250 2v 5.4 with 230,000 on the clock that I would like to replace with a 2005 3v 5.4, will this be a straight forward swap or a big hassle.
Thank in advance for your input, Steve |
Nobody knows if these two motors will interchange?:)

It is not a direct swap plug and play so to speak. The engines them isn't so much the issue....from my meager understanding. You probably need to relocate the motor mounts? not real sure on that.
the bigger issue is that you will have to swap over the entire wiring harness and well as the ECM from the donors 3v home as well as the PATs module and the tranny too. the tranny maybe the simular....but the management of it is not. you probably would be better off finding a 2v engine that has less miles on it. Its my understanding the the 2v version was used in full sized vans til like 08'...so you stand a better chance find one with low miles. you may still need to swap over a few things but it should drop right in. If you have the money, all things are possible if you have your heart set on this swap. |
same engine mounts, same transmission will work, it's the wiring and ecm that causes the issue, on F150online there's a well written "how to" thread

Stofferj, thanks for the reply, do you have a link for that? I went over to that site and did a search but I didn't have much luck.
Thanks Steve |
